This International Women's Day, we want to use this opportunity to celebrate the women in our company, raise awareness against bias and take action for equality.
We'd love to introduce you to a few of our great ladies!
Essential in making sure all our products are the highest quality and ensuring our candles burn beautifully for a long time. She’s the girl to thank for our clean burn, strong consistent fragrance throw and continuous innovation!
S: I handle the testing for our fragrances and materials, testing the flash point, specific gravity, refractive index, colours and odours. I make sure each fragrance and material pass the quality standard, and put our products under 'quarantine' to see if it beats the test of time. Also, I experiment with new fragrances that could affect burn performance through a series of tests.
This means I do two runs of 4 hour burn tests every day, measure smoke emissions using a photometer determining the soot index calculation, look for tunnelling or residue, check vessel temperatures using a thermal camera and thermal probe and flame heights for a stable burn.
All our products need to go through a series of testing and must be approved before going into production trials.
S: I love working together and experimenting with crazy ideas making sure our products are perfect and safe to use at home for everyone!
S: In our factory, we’re a more or less 50:50 female to male environment and I can say we’re all treated equally. Our roles are equally divided, making things easier for everyone. We all work together, helping each other like a big family. This is what brings us closer and keeps us motivated to keep trying every day and to stay positive!
S: At Parks, we love to experiment and try new things, there’s no harm in trying something new. We either love it and move forward or hate it and learn to never try that again and improve it. We are so proud of everyone in our factory. No matter how big or small the task is, every little detail helps us improve every day!
Essential in making sure our system data is accurate, managing stocks of incoming goods (we’re talking boatloads) and making sure goods are at the factory in time for production.
L: I’m the Stock Manager. I work closely with our Production Manager, who is also a woman, to make sure we reach customer deadlines. I control the quality of incoming goods so it meets customer expectations. We raise non-conformance reports and extrapolate data to help all other managers at the factory with their daily processes.
L: I am a full-time working mum of 2 daughters. So I’m incredibly proud to be able to set an example of what can be achieved in life. Holding such a key role in a great company helps me to show how it’s really important to better yourself at every opportunity. This allows me to teach my girls that you have to work hard in life to reap the rewards. Things are not just handed to you on a plate.
L: It’s brilliant that Parks place women in key roles. The whole Parks team pulls together and puts their all into meeting customer demands. The stereotype that manufacturing is a ‘man’s game’ isn’t present at Parks. All staff are treated equally, and everyone’s skills and opinions are valued and respected regardless of gender, age or race. This is the beauty of our Parks Family.
Parks London was founded by Carol Symons, and is still a family run business with 55 artisans in our 33,000 square foot production facility, and a team of 15 fragrance lovers in our Marylebone Showroom.
